God made promises to various persons in the Bible. Some of the most memorable promises are mentioned below. Scroll down even further to see God’s important promises to us!

God’s Promise to Abraham in Genesis 12:

Now the Lord said to Abram,

“Go forth from your country, And from your relatives, And from your father’s house,
To the land which I will show you; And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you,
And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing; And I will bless those who bless you,
And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”

How were all the families of the earth blessed in Abraham? Through the birth of his descendant, Jesus, the redeemer from sin

God’s promise to Isaac (Abraham’s son) in Genesis 26

I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven, and will give your descendants all these lands; and by your descendants all the nations of the earth shall be blessed; because Abraham obeyed Me and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes and My laws.”

God’s Promise to Jacob (Abraham’s grandson and Isaac’s son) in Genesis 28

“I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie, I will give it to you and to your descendants. Your descendants will also be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and in you and in your descendants shall all the families of the earth be blessed. Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”

God’s promise to the Israelites in Exodus 6:6-8

“Therefore, say to the Israelites: ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. And I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the Lord.’”

God’s promise to King David in 2 Samuel 7:16

“Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.’”

How was this promise to David fulfilled?

Through the birth of Jesus as revealed in Luke 1:31-33 when the angel Gabriel visited Mary and told her “You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

The promise of David’s throne and David’s kingdom is fulfilled through Jesus Christ, “The Son of David” (Matt 1:1). The line that began with David has its realization and eternal fulfillment through Christ.

God’s Promise (delivered via his angel Gabriel) to Mary in Luke 1:31-33

31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; 33 and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.”
